Start with the problem you need to solve

Make the question specific: an approach to a course problem, English expression, how a course meets your degree requirements, or your CV and career direction. This makes it easier to choose useful support.

Language support: choose the service before booking

The Language Centre offers English courses and learning support. Its Hub includes the Speaking Studio and Language Advising Room. Read the relevant service description and check available sessions.

Before booking, identify a presentation structure, speaking task or language-learning plan you want to discuss. Questions about a course assignment’s requirements or marking criteria should still go to the course teacher.

LC Hub is Room 4240, LI 4/F, open Monday–Friday 10:00–20:00, closed weekends and public holidays; contact lcss.lc@cityu.edu.hk / 3442 9593 for Hub and booking enquiries. The general office is a different room, LI 2403 on 2/F, open weekdays 09:00–12:30 and 14:00–17:30; course/administrative enquiries: 3442 7607 / language.centre@cityu.edu.hk.

For assignment writing, choose a one-to-one Writing Studio consultation: 30 minutes, with up to two consecutive appointments in a day. Upload a draft of no more than 1,000 words at least 24 hours beforehand and bring the assignment brief and your questions. Being five or more minutes late counts as absent and may release the slot. For walk-in availability ask the Hub student helper; one walk-in consultation per student per day applies.

Choose a service for your problem
ServicePurpose / timing / location
Language AdvisingFree one-to-one English-learning advice, 30 minutes. The LC page lists weeks 1–13; LI 4240 LC Hub.
Speaking StudioPresentations, IELTS speaking, conversation and interview practice; 30 minutes, two consecutive sessions if available. Bring presentation materials.
Writing StudioDraft consultation; 30 minutes. Upload up to 1,000 words 24 hours ahead; up to two consecutive sessions/day.
Assessment / degree requirementsAsk the teacher about the assignment; find your degree advisor in AIMS → Student Record → My Advisor / Mentor and My Mentees.
  1. Choose the service and a future week

Open LC Booking → Login with CityU Account [EID] → Service Category. Choose Writing Studio for drafts or Speaking Studio for speaking. Select the current Semester and the intended Week; an empty default week does not establish that the whole semester is full.

  2. Confirm your booking and prepare

Select an available session and complete the displayed registration steps. In View My Bookings, check the service, date, time, venue and status, then save confirmation. For writing, upload up to 1,000 words at least 24 hours ahead if possible, and bring the assignment brief and questions; bring presentation material for speaking.

  3. If a category or place is unavailable, contact the Hub

Language Advising is a free 30-minute learning consultation; its official page uses this booking entry. If its category is absent or the desired sessions are full, call 3442 9593 or email lcss.lc@cityu.edu.hk with the service and available times, or ask the student helper at LI 4240 about a walk-in. Writing walk-ins are limited to one per student per day, subject to availability.

  4. Manage changes and attend the confirmed venue

If unable to attend, find the record in View My Bookings and use its cancellation option. If no option is shown, contact the Hub immediately. Follow the confirmed venue and aim to arrive five minutes early; Writing Studio counts arrival five minutes or more late as absence, with penalties for repeated absences.

PALSI registration has closed: what can you do now?

Regular PALSI registration for Semester A 2026/27 closed on 13 September 2026. To join this peer-learning programme for nominated courses, first check your course, then ask TED whether late admission is possible. If you need help with a question now, also arrange office hours with your lecturer or tutor.

  1. Check whether your enrolled course is listed

In the 27-course table immediately below, enter your course code, such as CS1302, in “Filter this table”. PALSI is for students taking the relevant course. If listed, use the next step to ask about admission. If your course is absent, or you just need help with a question, use step 4.

  2. Ask TED about late admission from your university email

To: learning@cityu.edu.hk Subject: PALSI 2026/27 A — [course code] — late admission enquiry Suggested message (replace the brackets): Hello, I am [name], Student No. [number], EID [EID], taking [course code/section]. I am available at [dates/times] and [have/have not] completed PALSI Student Orientation. Is it still possible to join this semester? If so, please advise an available group, registration steps and any orientation arrangements for first-time participants. Thank you.

  3. After TED replies, confirm your place and remaining steps

The message above is a suggested enquiry; TED has not announced a general late-entry window. TED decides whether to admit you and how to proceed. Follow its reply and confirm the course, group, time, venue and orientation requirements. Keep successful registration or written confirmation. Sending an enquiry, finding your course or seeing an AIMS menu does not register you.

  4. Get help now through office hours or language support

For course questions, find your lecturer/tutor’s office hours and contact details in the syllabus or Canvas course home page. Attend published sessions as instructed, or use your university email to contact them with the course code, exact question, attempted solution, point of difficulty and 2–3 available times. Confirm the venue/meeting link from the reply. For English writing or speaking, use the Writing/Speaking Studio booking route in this page’s “English support” section.

Career advice: choose your student group and book

Current undergraduates outside the College of Business use CLC UG consultations; postgraduates use PG Career Services; CB undergraduates use Business Career Development. Advice covers CVs, cover letters, career choices, interviews and further study. Choose the route for your student group and prepare your application material.

CLC UG consultations run weekdays 09:00–17:30 and PG consultations 09:00–18:00, excluding public holidays, via Zoom. Prepare your CV, cover letter and target job description. Use the date, time and Zoom link in confirmation; the office address does not mean the consultation is in person. General enquiries: 3442 5591; office: 702, Hu Fa Kuang Sports Centre, Jockey Club One Health Tower.

CLC booking limits
Student groupQuota and advance booking
Non-CB undergraduateUp to 10 per academic year and one booking per week; arrange at least three calendar days ahead.
PostgraduateUp to four per academic year and one booking per month; arrange three calendar days ahead using available dates.
  1. Open the booking form for your student group

Use CLC UG booking for non-CB undergraduates: select Current Status, College / School and Career Advisor. Class-of-2026 UG graduates select Fresh Graduate (Class of 2026). For CLC PG booking, select Current Status, Purposes of Consultation and Career Advisor. Follow the form to available dates/times, check the time zone and your contact details, and complete confirmation. CB undergraduates use the separate CB route below.

  2. Keep confirmation and prepare for Zoom

Save the confirmation email, advisor, time and Zoom link. Share the CV, cover letter and job description as requested and identify your main question. UG rules recommend joining Zoom five minutes early, with audio and camera on.

  3. Cancel or change through the correct service

For CLC UG, email career.education@cityu.edu.hk at least 24 hours before cancellation/rescheduling. Late cancellation, no notice or arrival more than 10 minutes late can block bookings for the next two months. For serious exceptional circumstances, notify the team at least three hours ahead and provide evidence to request exemption under the rules. For PG changes, email pg.career@cityu.edu.hk from your university account with your Student No., original date/time, advisor and cancellation/rescheduling request; keep the team’s confirmation. Use the same team for no availability or eligibility queries, stating your student group, topic and available times.

College of Business: use CB career advisors

CB undergraduate and taught-postgraduate students also have CB Career Advising. Undeclared-major undergraduates use a CB advisor; declared-major students may choose a college or departmental advisor. Use the undergraduate appointment form or MA/MSc TPg link for a 30-minute Zoom session. Provide a shared folder with your CV/cover letter and job requirements. Wait for confirmation/Zoom details. Cancel with your scheduled advisor; over ten minutes late counts as No Show, and absence without cancellation prevents booking the following month. Enquiries: cbcareer@cityu.edu.hk.

Career advice after graduation

Graduates: the UG service includes the class of 2026 until 31 August 2027. PG graduates may use remaining quota in the graduation month recorded in AIMS and the next two months (for example October–December), with current students prioritised. As the PG form is labelled for current students, graduates should email pg.career@cityu.edu.hk with their AIMS graduation month and remaining quota for arrangements.

Prepare for help and leave with an action

A practical way to prepare is to explain the context, show what you have tried and state the help you need. Afterwards, record one action you can carry out and when you plan to do it.

  1. Context

Your course and term, or target role and application stage.

  2. Your attempt

A problem, plan, CV or preparation notes.

  3. The help you need
