Start with your own advising worksheet

Sign in to AIMS and open DegreeWorks under Study Plan. It compares your academic record with College/School, GE, major and minor requirements to show what remains.

Check the personal information, programme and catalogue term at the top. After changing a major, adding a minor or receiving transfer credit, confirm that the displayed plan matches your approved record.

Where to goAIMSStudy PlanDegreeWorks
  1. Open your own worksheet

Log in to AIMS with EID/password, then Study Plan → DegreeWorks. Advising Worksheet is the default. Check your name, Student No., major, minor and Curriculum Catalogue Term at the top.

  2. Save an outstanding-requirements list

Read the remaining courses/credits in each block. Registration Checklist is the shortened view of incomplete requirements. Record the block, shortfall, conditions and date checked.

Read each requirement block, not just the total

Work through the College/School, Gateway Education, Major and Minor blocks. For each outstanding item, identify whether it needs credit units, a named course or a particular category.

An in-progress course has no final result yet; appearing in the audit does not mean it has been passed. For a completed course, also check which requirement it satisfies.

A normative four-year degree normally requires at least 120 credits and permits at most 144; programme and advanced-standing requirements can differ. Free electives fill the remaining degree-credit balance. A minor is optional, normally 15–18 credits. Where double counting between requirements is permitted, credits still count only once toward the total.

Three questions for every audit block
What you seeWhat to check
Outstanding requirementWhich course or credit category is missing? Is a minimum grade required?
In-progress courseWhich requirement will it fill if passed? Is completion still provisional?
Existing credit or exemptionWas credit awarded, or were you only exempted from a course?

Check the cohort before counting GE

A programme flowchart usually shows the sequence of major courses. It may omit English, Chinese, GE or other University requirements, which still need checking.

For the normative four-year route, the total GE requirement is 31 credit units for 2025/26 entrants onwards and 30 for 2024/25 entrants and earlier. Advanced Standing routes have different requirements.

For normative four-year entrants from 2025/26, the 31 GE credits comprise 10 University requirements (GE1601 1, GE1401 3, discipline-specific English 3, GE1501 3), 12 distributional and 9 College/School-specified credits. Distribution Areas 1, 2 and 3 cover arts/humanities; societies/organisations; and science/technology. At least one course from each area is required. Use the entry-route table and your worksheet for advanced standing.

Normative four-year entrants from 2022/23 must also fulfil their college/school internship, consultancy or research-project requirement. Do not stop at the credit total. Required entry-language courses marked * do not count toward minimum graduation credits or CGPA but count toward the credit ceiling; record their completion separately.

Incoming Year 1 and Advanced Standing I students must complete GE1601 in their first year; the 2026/27 catalogue currently lists Semester A. Completing enough credits before graduation does not mean every compulsory course can be deferred to the final year.

GE routes for entrants from 2025/26
Entry routeTotal / distributional requirements
Normative four-year31 / 12 credits; at least one course from each of the three areas.
Advanced Standing I22 / 6 credits from two different areas.
Advanced Standing II (senior-year entry)12 / 3 credits; check the University and College/School components for this route.

Turn outstanding items into next steps

Use DegreeWorks What If to test planned courses against your current programme/route; change hypothetical major/minor options only when exploring that change. Plans maps courses by term. These previews do not register courses in AIMS or approve programme changes.

If a passed course is not applied as expected, or approved transfer credit or an exemption is missing, ask your home academic unit or adviser about the specific course, term and requirement before planning around it.

Find your assigned advisor in AIMS → Student Record → My Advisor / Mentor and My Mentees. Send the outstanding list, requirement and suspected mismatch to the advisor/programme office, asking whether the course can fulfil it and whether a record correction is needed.

  1. List the shortfall

Record the block, missing course/credits, minimum grade and intended completion term.

  2. Validate the next course

Use GE search for the area and the current Master Class Schedule for availability. Check prerequisites/components and the expected What If allocation.

  3. Resolve a mismatch

Give the programme office/advisor the course code, term, grade/approved transfer and worksheet block where it is missing. If you cannot identify the office, ask ARRO at as@cityu.edu.hk or 3442 2300 to route the enquiry.

  4. Completion check

Keep a requirement-by-requirement outstanding list and replies on any mismatch. After registering, confirm AIMS registration and recheck the worksheet.

Assigned LC0200A/B? Complete the English prerequisite first

LC0200A/B are three credits each, excluded from minimum graduation credits and GPA but included in the credit ceiling. Pass A before B, then progress to GE1401/discipline-specific English; an overall B or above in A waives B. A is currently listed in Semesters A/B, B in Semester B/Summer, subject to actual offerings.

Planning to finish this term? Submit the graduation application

Undergraduate graduation review requires a separate application. Semester A 2026/27 applications run from 8 September to 30 November 2026. Confirm that passing current courses will fulfil every requirement. Credits already earned before application must reach 90 for normative four-year, 60 for Advanced Standing I, 33 for Advanced Standing II, 110 for double degrees or 180 for Veterinary Medicine. These are application thresholds, not graduation totals.

  1. Open the graduation application

AIMS → Student Record → My Applications (for Undergraduate and Master’s Programmes) → Graduation (For Bachelor’s Degree Students Only). One application can cover your double major/minor.

  2. Verify and submit

Check the final curriculum, majors/minors and legal English/Chinese names. Correct errors through the indicated process before submission. Save the confirmation and wait for the email.

  3. Verify the recorded application

If no confirmation email arrives within two days, contact ARRO at 3442 2300 / as@cityu.edu.hk. Open Graduation again to view the recorded curriculum. Assessment follows grade release; if you need a later graduation term, submit a new application for that term.

Common questions

Open to read
Does a completed audit automatically mean I graduate?

You must meet all applicable degree regulations and follow the graduation process. DegreeWorks supports auditing and advising; your transcript is the official academic record and the University confirms eligibility.

How do transfer credit and course exemption differ?

Approved transfer credit contributes to credit requirements. A course exemption removes a specific course requirement but awards no credit, so the minimum degree credit requirement still applies.
