Conditional preparatory courses
Placement-dependent preparatory courses; excluded from minimum degree credits under the cited current rule.
- Below the English threshold, take LC0200A then LC0200B unless exempted; an overall grade B or above in LC0200A exempts LC0200B. Each is 3 credits, excluded from minimum graduation credits and CGPA but included in the maximum permitted credits.
- Non-JUPAS exemption evidence includes a test within the previous two years: IELTS overall 6.5 with Reading/Writing 6.0 each; TOEFL iBT 79 with Reading 15 and Writing 12; or accepted Cambridge ESOL Reading/Writing CEFR B2+. New students must apply by the end of their first semester; the Language Centre assesses other qualifications.
- A degree from a university in an English-speaking country can exempt LC English courses. Other non-JUPAS qualifications may be assessed by the English Placement Test or alternative evidence through the Language Centre. LC exemption does not waive GE1401 or GE2410.
- CHIN1001 is additional to GE1501 for below-Level-4 HKDSE Chinese or below-Grade-D HKALE AS Chinese results. The published table does not require it for students at/above these thresholds or without either Hong Kong examination result. Its 3 credits are excluded from minimum graduation credits and CGPA.
- The CHIN1001 record separately lists HKDSE Chinese Level 3 or HKALE Grade E as prerequisites. Public rules do not resolve lower results; ask the offering unit about prerequisite permission and assigned preparatory study, supplying qualification evidence. Do not assume another course substitutes.

Optional internship substitution routes
These are optional approved routes, not three extra required courses.
- Four months: EE4085 (3 credits) fulfils EE2066 (3 credits) and EE4090 (0 credits). The non-credit training does not create another 3 credits.
- Eight months: EE4085 + EE4086 (6 credits). EE4086 requires EE4085 and supplies 3 credits within the 15-credit major-elective requirement.
- Twelve months: EE4085 + EE4087 (9 credits), subject to approval. EE4087 (6 credits) fulfils the EE4080 project requirement, rather than a technical elective.
