MOS halls to campus: change once at Tai Wai
From MOS halls to the main campus, the all-MTR route changes once at Tai Wai, followed by a walk from Kowloon Tong. The outward and return steps are below. The 26-minute reference is station-to-station, excluding residence/campus walks and extra waiting.
Alternatively, take 807X from Yiu Sha Road outside Seanorama near the halls to University Station, then East Rail. The minibus costs HK$5.7 plus the University–Kowloon Tong rail fare; HK$5.7 is not the total to campus. The all-MTR student-status Octopus reference is HK$5.4. Compare walking, waiting and total fare.
| Standard-class fare | Single reference |

| Octopus with active Student Status | HK$5.4 |
| Adult single-journey ticket | HK$12.5 |
| MTR estimated journey | About26 minutes, one change; exclude hall/campus walks and extra waiting. This is not door-to-door time. |
Walk from the halls to Wu Kai Sha A1
From the Choi Sha Street residence, take the footbridge through Double Cove Place to Wu Kai Sha A1. Follow Tuen Ma Line towards Tuen Mun.
Change at Tai Wai and leave at Kowloon Tong
Remain in the paid area at Tai Wai and change to East Rail towards Admiralty. Leave at the next station, Kowloon Tong. Use standard class unless paying for First Class.
Use C2 and walk through Festival Walk
Use C2, reach Festival Walk LG1 and follow City University signs through the pedestrian tunnel. Inside campus, follow your class building and room number.
Return via Tai Wai and Tuen Ma Line
From Kowloon Tong take East Rail towards Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau to Tai Wai, then Tuen Ma Line towards Wu Kai Sha to the terminus. Exit A1 and return through Double Cove Place 2/F footbridge to Choi Sha Street.
807X: board near the halls and change at University
There is also a nearer boarding point from the residence: SRO’s current neighbourhood guide gives an approximately three-minute walk to the 807X stop on Yiu Sha Road outside Seanorama for University Station. Find the 807X stop sign and confirm University Station with the driver. If unfamiliar with the road or direction, use Wu Kai Sha Station Public Transport Interchange as described above. Three minutes is SRO’s walking estimate and excludes waiting.
807X runs from University Station in a loop via Wu Kai Sha Station and back. The current Transport Department listing gives a HK$5.7 fare and departures from University Station daily 06:00–24:00. Wu Kai Sha is an intermediate point on this loop; 24:00 is not a guaranteed last passing time there.

Board at the nearby Yiu Sha Road stop towards University
Follow the SRO directions for an approximately three-minute walk to the 807X stop on Yiu Sha Road outside Seanorama. Confirm “University Station?” with the driver before boarding, pay the displayed fare by Octopus, and leave at University. If unfamiliar with this stop, use the 807X stop at Wu Kai Sha Station transport interchange via Double Cove Place footbridge.
Continue on East Rail
At University, take East Rail towards Admiralty to Kowloon Tong. Use C2 → Festival Walk LG1 → CityUHK pedestrian tunnel.
Back to the residence
Take East Rail from Kowloon Tong towards Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau to University. At the station transport interchange take 807X towards Wu Kai Sha, leave at Wu Kai Sha Station and walk back through Double Cove Place. This gives a clear return stop without relying on an unfamiliar intermediate roadside stop.
Confirm late service and use the all-MTR alternative if needed
24:00 is the departure time at University, not the passing time at Wu Kai Sha or Yiu Sha Road. Call 2361 1255 if unsure of late service. Before switching to the all-MTR route, check the whole connecting journey using the last-train steps below.
Your MTR trip from gate to exit
Identify destination and exit first; follow the line’s terminal-direction name rather than “left/right”. Tap the same Octopus at entry and exit. For a bank card/wallet use the same physical card or same device throughout; a physical card and its phone version are different media even when linked to one account.
Check value and fare category
Keep sufficient Octopus value and present one card only. Contactless bank-card fares are adult Octopus fares, without the student concession.
Follow line and terminal signs
Follow line names/colours and direction, staying in the paid area for changes where applicable. East Rail First Class costs extra; use standard class unless validated.
Exit and resolve gate errors
Use the same medium. If rejected, wait for the indicator to stop before one retry; then ask the Customer Service Centre, stating entry station and medium, to correct the record. Do not tailgate.
Bus travel: verify direction before payment
The same route number runs in two directions; check the destination and next stops on the stop plate. In the operator query enter the route, choose terminal direction and locate your boarding/alighting stops. Arrival minutes are estimates affected by traffic/diversions. On ordinary franchised buses board at the front and pay, press the stop bell before your stop and leave as signed; follow specific instructions for section-fare/rebate devices or special services.
Prepare payment
Tap Octopus on boarding, or tender the exact displayed cash fare; change is generally unavailable. Use QR/bank cards only where supported. Normally no exit tap is required except a signed section-fare/rebate arrangement.
Request the stop
Watch stop displays, press the bell before your stop and wait for the bus to stop before moving or collecting luggage.
Wrong direction or missed stop
Alight at the next safe stop and identify your location. Recheck the return stop nearby rather than crossing a dangerous road. For lost property record route, direction, vehicle/registration, time and seat and contact the operator.
Student fares depend on the actual payment medium
MTR student travel requires age12 to under26, an eligible full-time day course and encoded Student Status on a photo-personalised physical/mobile Octopus. Showing a student card does not convert ordinary adult Octopus, single ticket, QR or bank-card fares. The concession excludes Airport Express, Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau, feeder buses and East Rail First Class. Other buses/minibuses/ferries do not automatically inherit the MTR student fare; check their displayed route fare.
Minibuses, taxis, ferries, trams and Light Rail
Green minibuses follow fixed routes/stops: confirm destination, fare/payment with the driver and request your stop in advance. Red-minibus routes/fares/stopping arrangements depend on the actual service. For taxis give a complete address, check meter and baggage/toll extras, confirm payment accepted, request a receipt and take belongings. For ferries verify pier, destination, sailing and ordinary/fast category before buying; Star Ferry and outlying-island services are different.
For Hong Kong Island trams, match the vehicle destination and eastbound/westbound stop. Board at the rear; pay when leaving through the front. Fares are HK$3.30 adult, HK$1.60 age 3–11 and HK$1.50 age 65+. Pay by Octopus, supported bank/mobile payment or transit QR code; cash receives no change. Do not tap on boarding as you would at MTR gates, and distinguish island trams from Light Rail. Published first/last times are departures from termini, not intermediate-stop times; follow diversion notices during works.
Light Rail in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai uses open platforms. With Octopus, tap the platform Entry Fare Processor before boarding and wait for the green light and success message. After alighting, tap the same card at the Exit Fare Processor to settle the fare. Complete the trip within two hours. Omitting exit validation can charge the maximum fare; an ungated platform does not mean free boarding. For a Light Rail single journey ticket, select the destination and ticket type at the machine before boarding and retain the valid ticket until the trip ends. A heavy-rail single journey ticket is not a Light Rail ticket.
Last trains, disruption and lost property
Before a late trip, select From/To in MTR Trip Planner, Search and open First/Last Train. Check the complete connecting journey, not just the origin’s last departure. During suspension remain somewhere safe, read Service Status, then find an operating bus or official taxi stand. MTR enquiries2881 8888; KMB/Long Win2745 4466; Citybus2136 8888. For lost property give date/time, route/direction, boarding/alighting stops, item description and callback number. For danger call999.
