wayfinding Find your way: read the building and room CityUHK

Start with the complete venue

Copy the full venue from the current AIMS schedule, course notice or booking confirmation. Identify the building before the floor and room: “5/F” alone is insufficient.

Search the official interactive map by building, unit or facility. At the entrance, use the directory, colour zone and signs. Do not assume adjacent buildings connect at every level.

  1. Check the venue for that day

Record date/time, building, floor and room. For classes use the current timetable and room-change notice; for appointments use the confirmation.

  2. Set the building as the map destination

Use this page’s map link and search the full building or department name. Reach its entrance/gathering point before finding the floor. Adjacent buildings need not connect on the same level.

  3. Find the zone and lift

In YEUNG/BOC, identify the colour zone first. Follow floor directories to the right lift/stair and then check the full door number.

  4. If lost, report a usable location

Say “I am at [building + floor + door/gathering point] and need [full destination]” to the destination office. General enquiries: 3442 7654. State wheelchair or step-free access needs explicitly.

Match common abbreviations to buildings

Start with the building names below. YEUNG, LI, LAU and BOC are common Kowloon Tong campus destinations. CMC is at 18 Tat Hong Avenue and CIC at 22 Cornwall Street; “CityU” alone does not identify an entrance. The map button supplies navigation, while this page explains how to identify the building and room.

Follow gathering-point and floor signs

Large gathering-point letters mark entrances or common meeting areas and guide you onwards. LI uses G/H, LAU E and CMC K. These letters are different from room-number colour prefixes.

For lifts, accessible routes or a specific entrance, consult the map and signs and confirm with the destination office if needed. Share the full building, floor and room or an agreed gathering point when meeting someone.

Common questions

Open to read
Should an R-prefixed room lead me to YEUNG?

The official wayfinding page associates R with the Red zone at BOC. Confirm the building before finding the floor and room.

Is gathering point G the Green Zone?

They are separate sign systems. Gathering letters mark entrances or meeting areas; colour letters identify YEUNG/BOC room zones. Use the full venue and directory to distinguish them.
