Choose the correct application

Identify your level of study, local/non-local status, new/current status and admission cohort. SRO uses these distinctions to determine which application applies.

For eligible new mainland non-local students on government-funded full-time four-year undergraduate programmes in 2026/27, priority covers the first two study years. Apply each year; priority is not a room allocation and cannot be deferred.

The 2026 Mainland Gaokao application window, 24 June–15 July, has ended. The policy normally places first-year entrants in Ma On Shan and second-year students in Kowloon Tong, with a small first-year Kowloon Tong allocation subject to preferences/lot drawing. A confirmed 2026/27 hall offer makes you ineligible for the Ad-hoc route below. Second-year priority depends on non-local status in AIMS and a new annual application.

After applying, confirm the outcome

Check the round, dates and submission method on your category’s application page, then save the application record. An offer needs a separate check of location, residential period, acceptance deadline and payment.

As of 16 October 2026, the March regular round for current non-local KLT undergraduates has ended. Check SRO’s current ad hoc route if needed. It depends on vacancies, offers no guarantee, and excludes students who have already confirmed a 2026/27 hall offer.

The Ad-hoc period ends at noon on 24 May 2027; the individual offer sets its start. Application/payment/allocation help: Kowloon Tong, sro@cityu.edu.hk / +852 3442 1111; Ma On Shan UG admission, srouga.mos@cityu.edu.hk; general residence, sro.mos@cityu.edu.hk / +852 3442 1200. Include name, Student No./reference, category, required period and payment evidence if applicable.

  1. Submit the current Ad-hoc route

AIMS → Student Services → Student Residence → Student Residence Ad-hoc Round Application (Undergraduate Students). Check year/status/period, complete and review the form, submit and save its reference/record.

  2. Distinguish waiting from allocation

Submission puts you on a waiting list. Results go to University email. An offer must specify compound, start/end, acceptance deadline and amount before you can move in.

  3. Pay to confirm and verify

Published Ad-hoc first instalments: local/pre-2019 non-local HK$6,450; non-local from 2019 HK$8,200. Second instalments: HK$8,650/HK$10,400 respectively. Pay the first in full to confirm; keep payment/acceptance records and ask SRO if not reflected.

  4. Complete allocation and check-in

Check hall/room/bed in the allocation. Preferred roommates must have confirmed the same period/compound, be the same gender and mutually nominate each other; preferences are not guaranteed. Pre-check in through your compound Portal before attendance.

Check your fee category and offer payment

The table shows 2026/27 undergraduate fees per person in HKD for a residential year. Exchange, postgraduate and summer accommodation have separate charges. Follow your offer for payment amounts and deadlines.

Compare rooms by residence location

KLT undergraduate halls have single and double rooms; MOS undergraduate accommodation uses double rooms. A KLT single-room option is not a standard choice at MOS.

MOS undergraduates who need single occupancy of a double room for disability, medical or other special needs must upload supporting documents with their housing application. Approval is case by case and not guaranteed; the fee is twice the double-room rate, i.e. HK$41,600 for non-local cohorts from 2019. A small number of unused accessible or RT single rooms may also be considered with proof and approval; these are not standard selectable room types.

Kowloon Tong (KLT)Single rooms about 9 m²; doubles about 13 m², with variation. Two adjacent rooms share a washroom.
Ma On Shan (MOS)Undergraduate double rooms; communal toilets and bathrooms on same-gender floors. Single occupancy for special needs requires approval.

How returning residents apply from year three

Show the closed 2026/27 round and preparation for the next round

Third-year and later students use the Returning Residents Scheme. Activity participation or hall points do not guarantee accommodation. KLT’s 2026/27 returning process requires the Residence Master’s recommendation, considering academic performance, AIMS Score B (leadership and contribution), previous hall contribution and disciplinary records. Hall weights and forms differ. During the annual round, complete the AIMS housing application, download the latest form for your current or most recently occupied hall, enter activities/contribution and evidence, submit it to the hall management team for recommendation, and retain both records. Allocation remains subject to vacancies; successful recommended residents are assigned to the recommending RM’s hall.

Common questions

Open to read
Can I choose my hall, roommate or room type?

Use only the options offered in your application. SRO makes the allocation; a preference is not a confirmed assignment. Check the formal offer and room-allocation notice.

Can I move in after missing the regular round?

Check for an applicable ad hoc or other published route. Neither a waiting-list place nor a submitted application is an offer. Move in only after receiving and accepting a formal allocation.
