residence Move in, then check your room CityUHK
Check the move-in notice before travelling
Check your approved date, location and service hours. KLT undergraduate guidance requires pre-registration in KLNT Portal for a Check-in PassCode. Present it with your CityUHK student ID or passport and collect your Resident Card in person.
Ma On Shan also requires Portal pre-check-in and a Check-in PassCode on arrival day, plus student card/passport at the location in your notice. Its public procedure is still labelled 2025/26: do not reuse the 2025 dates. Find start date, location/hours and final check-in date in your own 2026/27 offer. Obtain SRO agreement before exceptional late arrival; it does not automatically reduce fees.
Pre-check in at your compound
Use KLNT Portal or MOS Portal, confirm allocation and complete health/undertaking and other tasks. MOS also lists anti-scam information and CASH tutorial. Read/complete personally before confirmation.
Keep the day’s passcode
Obtain Check-in PassCode in the completed Portal and reopen it on arrival day. Bring student card/passport, approved notice, single-bed bedding, towel/toiletries and Octopus.
Collect the correct keycard
Kowloon Tong: Tat Hong Avenue main gate or Cornwall Street Hi-bye bridge, then MFH-A or vehicle-entrance 24-hour security as notified. MOS: main gate at 2 Choi Sha Street, then the notified SRO reception/security office. Present passcode/ID in person and collect the assigned room/bed card.
Inspect the room as soon as you arrive
Check furniture, appliances and room condition against the inventory checklist. Report existing damage, hygiene issues or pests promptly to the lobby security staff as instructed, and retain dated photos and records.
KLT guidance warns that residents may be held responsible for defects reported after the first week. Complete the initial inspection promptly. Check the room inventory before buying personal items; a mattress does not imply a full bedding set.
Match the card/Portal bed number to bed, desk and wardrobe markings, then check lock, mattress, lights, air-conditioning, sockets, curtains, furniture and washroom. Date the evidence with room number and identify pre-existing defects. Report at the Kowloon Tong hall lobby or MOS Portal, retaining acknowledgement. Correct bed, working keycard and recorded initial defects establish handover.
Use the correct maintenance channel
For furniture, lighting or plumbing faults, state the residence, room, exact location, symptoms and time found. Include clear photos and retain the request number. Contact security immediately for danger rather than waiting for a routine ticket.
Use the correct reporting service
Kowloon Tong: AIMS → Student Services → Student Residence, then the facilities repair/defect report. MOS: https://mos-portal.cityu-sro.hk/ → CityU Web Sign In → Service Request for repair reporting. Ask lobby security if the option is not visible.
Describe a locatable fault
In MOS Portal’s Service Request form, report one item per request. Check Name/Mobile Contact, then complete Item, Building, Item Location, Floor and Description; attach Photos if useful. Include discovery time and symptoms, plus AP/outlet number and device OS for network faults. After submitting, retain the reference and use My Requests to find the record. Keep the reference for KLT AIMS reports as well.
Verify the repair
Cooperate with arrangements, test the original fault afterwards and follow up using the same reference if unresolved. For electrical water leaks, smoke/fire or personal danger, contact security/999 immediately.
Set up access, utilities and network
In Kowloon Tong, the student card admits you to the residence/hall and Resident Card opens your room; Ma On Shan also separates compound/hall and room access. Prepare Octopus for air-conditioning/laundry. MOS kiosks are in laundry rooms/lobbies: verify room number before non-refundable/non-transferable top-up. Load laundry, wait for Start to Pay, pay at the kiosk, then press Start on the machine; tapping alone does not start it.
Network: campus/Kowloon Tong CityU WLAN (WPA) uses EID and Network Connection Password; MOS uses the supplied CityU_Hall_WLAN. Kowloon Tong wired access requires Ethernet MAC registration; MOS connects via room/AP LAN socket. Kowloon Tong network faults: 3442 3190 / sronetwork@cityu.edu.hk; MOS: lobby QR report with outlet/AP number. Keycard/check-in help: Kowloon Tong 3442 1111 / sro@cityu.edu.hk; MOS 3442 1200 / sro.mos@cityu.edu.hk.
Find the laundry and shared facilities
Use the table below for each KLT Hall’s laundry floor and hours; RF means roof. Check availability in CityUHK Mobile → Student Residence before bringing laundry, suitable detergent and an Octopus card with sufficient value. Separate KLT and MOS payment/start instructions follow below.
KLT reference prices: the 2021 official video linked by the current SRO guide demonstrates HK$5 per wash and HK$1 per four minutes of drying (HK$5 for 20 minutes). Check the machine’s displayed amount before paying, and its programme/display for wash duration. The video gives no uniform wash duration or confirmation of 2026/27 tariff changes by machine.
Check online: residence portal → CityU Web Sign In → Laundry Status. Verify the Hall shown, then check WASHERS/DRYERS: Available, In Operation or Out of Service. Operating machines show remaining minutes. Viewing status does not reserve a machine.
MOS laundry payment kiosks are in hall lobbies and laundry rooms. Load clothes first, wait for Start to Pay, pay at the kiosk and return to press Start. MOS piano rooms operate 09:00–22:00 daily for MOS residents: present your student ID at the 24-hour Security Control Room to exchange for an access card, first come first served for 60 minutes; return the access card to retrieve your ID. KLT piano rooms are at each hall’s G/F, except Hall 10 at P1, with current published hours of 08:00–02:00 next day.
Use the kiosk manual linked from the current MOS move-in page: its screen example shows HK$5 for a 35-minute wash and HK$1 per four minutes of drying, with adjustable time; 20 minutes therefore costs HK$5 in that example. Select your hall and machine, then check programme, duration and amount before tapping Octopus. The illustrated screen is Hall 12; other machine programmes may differ, and the actual amount appears before payment. White means available, grey in use and red disconnected.
MOS Hall 16’s laundry is on 1/F. Its 2025 yearbook, printed page 46, lists seven washers and seven dryers paid by Octopus, with a drying room beside it. This is a hall-specific location; KLT roof locations and Hall 16’s floor are not automatically applied to the other MOS halls.
| Hall | Floor | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| Halls 1, 2, 3, 5, 9 | RF | 08:00–02:00 next day |

| Hall 8 | 14/F | 08:00–02:00 next day |
| Hall 10 | P1 | 24 hours |
| Hall 11 | G/F | 24 hours |
KLT: identify the washer or dryer
Use the floor table on this page to find the laundry room. Bring laundry, suitable detergent and an Octopus card with sufficient value. Check the washer W-number or dryer D-number; choose Laundry and the matching machine at the payment terminal.
KLT: check the amount before tapping Octopus
The official video demonstrates the HK$5 wash confirmation at 00:35 and HK$1/four-minute drying at 01:20. Convert the dryer payment into the time needed. Check the machine number and amount before payment; the confirmation states that deposited amounts are non-refundable.
KLT: start the same machine
Follow the machine panel for loading, detergent and programme selection. Close the door, press the start button and check that the cycle begins. If debited without starting, record the Hall, machine number, time and amount and ask hall security to check it; avoid repeatedly paying another machine.
MOS kiosk machines: load laundry and note the number
Put clothes and suitable detergent in an available machine and select the programme. Wait for Start to Pay and note its washer/dryer number.
MOS: select your Hall and machine at the kiosk
Choose Laundry, your hall and your machine. Adjust drying time if required. Check machine, duration and total, then tap Octopus and wait for payment confirmation.
MOS: return to the same machine and press Start
Press Start on the same machine after payment. Confirm it runs and set a collection reminder. If charged without starting, keep the machine number, payment time and amount and ask lobby security; do not pay a different machine repeatedly.
Cards, mail and proof of address
Report a lost room keycard immediately; replacement costs HK$100 per card. At MOS, a one-off door opening for a forgotten card costs HK$20 at the G/F security counter. For a lost card visit SRO during office hours or the security control room outside office hours, with student ID for verification. A lost student ID is separate from a lost room keycard; undergraduates must apply to ARRO for student ID replacement.
For MOS address proof, present your student ID at the SRO office during office hours. For proof covering a specified historical period, email sro.mos@cityu.edu.hk from your university account with your name, student number, hall/room and required dates. Include your actual hall and room in postal addresses. Follow the delivery notice for the collection point of your own parcel.
