  1. Medical: book by phone and register with ID

Call 3442 6066 up to two working days ahead. State student category, requested date and routine/urgent care. Record the appointment, present valid CityUHK student ID at BOC 4/F and pay at registration. Bring medication names, allergy information and referrals.

  2. Dental: make the appointment in person

Bring valid student ID to BOC 4/F dental reception. State whether you need examination, scaling or treatment, check whether this academic year’s free examination was used and ask for the estimated treatment units. Students book in person; ID is required for booking and attendance.

  3. Reschedule dental visits in advance

Call 3442 6052 at least one working day before the appointment. Arriving five minutes late for routine examination, or ten minutes late for other appointments, counts as cancellation without refund. Arrive before the confirmed time.

  4. Collect the right documents

Confirm medication directions, follow-up and referrals. Ask before leaving for any sick-leave certificate, attendance certificate or insurance receipt. A sick-leave certificate identifies the period unfit for work; an attendance certificate only confirms the visit.

Clinic prices: choose your programme category

These are the Finance Office’s current student guidelines. The subsidised category covers on-campus full-time and part-time students admitted to CityUHK award-bearing programmes, whether UGC-funded or non-UGC-funded. Holding a student card alone does not determine the tariff. Students outside those programmes, including exchange students, use the other-student category. Present valid CityUHK student ID.

Services include general consultations, clinically needed laboratory investigations, medication, dressings and injections. The clinic FAQ confirms a shared pharmacy and no difference in medication or other services between staff and students. HK$13 is the published consultation fee, not a promise of unlimited inclusion of every medicine or test. Before accepting another proposed service, ask whether it is charged separately, the total cost and whether an external referral is needed; keep itemised receipts.

Where to seek care after campus hours

Both hospitals below have 24-hour A&E departments. Call 999 for emergency ambulance assistance. If you can travel independently and need A&E, use the addresses below. Patients are treated by triage urgency, not arrival order; do not delay emergency care to check fees.

  1. Call 999 if emergency assistance is needed

Give the exact address, building/floor, situation and callback number and follow the operator’s instructions. In a residence, ask the local security team to help guide responders.

  2. Bring identification when attending A&E yourself

Show the driver the hospital name and full address above. At the hospital, follow Accident & Emergency signs for registration and triage. Bring HKID, passport/valid stay proof, medication and allergy records for eligibility checks and care. Do not delay emergency help to collect documents.

  3. Keep the records after treatment

Follow hospital payment instructions and keep official receipts, diagnosis/attendance records and referrals. Confirm medication directions and follow-up; use official documents for course or insurance requirements.

Book counselling for emotional or adjustment support

Students can book free SDS counselling for university adjustment, emotions, relationships or study difficulties. Call 3442 8478 during Mon–Fri 09:00–17:30, or visit the SDS counter at 6/F, BOC. Identify yourself as a student, describe the topic and available times, and record the appointment date, location and next steps confirmed by staff. Counselling remains at BOC 6/F; the student-life office at One Health Tower 7/F is a different service. For immediate danger, use the emergency assistance instructions above.

Check fees and insurance for your status

Use the fee table here to identify your programme category and tariff. Medical and dental charges are listed; ask the clinic to explain your proposed treatment, required chair-time and investigations and confirm the items and amount before payment.

The Basic Plan generally excludes ordinary outpatient consultations. The Top-up Plan has separate specified outpatient benefits subject to its terms and a registered doctor’s referral. Pay the provider and retain original receipts, diagnosis and referral documents; cover depends on your policy period, benefit limits and exclusions.

Students experiencing financial difficulty can call SDS on 3442 8090 about the Medical Relief Fund to apply for support for all or part of medical service fees. Approval and the amount depend on assessment.

Save the contacts before you need them

Common questions

Open to read
Should I wait until tomorrow if the clinic is closed?

Call 999 for immediate emergency assistance. When campus clinics are closed and you need A&E, use the 24-hour departments at Caritas Medical Centre or Prince of Wales Hospital listed on this page, with addresses, phones and current public A&E fees.
