Check required cover and programme rules

Non-local students need adequate cover throughout study, including travel, personal accident, medical, hospitalisation and emergency evacuation/repatriation. Check territory, dates and eligibility before departure.

The general admissions page describes self-arranged cover, but the current undergraduate pre-enrolment demonstration separately requires Mainland students to join the University plan, as does the 2026 SGS guidance for Mainland postgraduates. Do not infer an exemption from the general page. If your form requires participation, choose Basic or Top-Up. Before seeking non-participation with existing cover, ask uciadmin@cityu.edu.hk to confirm eligibility, stating your student/degree category and Hong Kong-valid insurance.

Compare cover, then Basic and Top-Up premiums

Basic supplies limited accident and medical benefits, excluding ordinary general-practitioner visits from its general cover. Top-Up adds specified outpatient benefits: specialist/medicines including physiotherapy/chiropractic treatment, 10 visits per year at HK$600 per day/visit; X-rays/laboratory tests, HK$2,000 per disability; vaccination, one annual visit at HK$200; chemotherapy/radiotherapy/renal dialysis, HK$15,000 per disability. Specialist/treatment and diagnostic benefits need a physician’s written referral, valid for six months. This is not unrestricted free outpatient care.

Check benefit caps, exclusions and emergency assistance

The attachment linked from the 2026/27 admission page still prints Policy Effective Date: 20 August 2025. Premiums/periods here follow the 2026/27 webpage; the benefits below summarise its currently linked attachment. Its arrival-eligibility wording does not override the webpage’s enrolment-and-full-payment activation condition. If your membership record differs, ask Generali to confirm the applicable version under GM-88000993.

The attached medical exclusions include routine check-ups, treatment not medically necessary, non-prescribed medicines, routine dental care and vision correction. General psychiatric/psychological treatment is also excluded there; a particular AIG accident benefit does not cover all such consultations. The Top-Up vaccination benefit is a specific extension.

For immediate danger, contact local emergency services; in Hong Kong call 999. For overseas medical evacuation/repatriation, where reasonably possible first call the leaflet’s 24-hour Europ Assistance number +852 8109 2883 with name, CityUHK/Generali, exact location, callback number and the incident/help needed. Claims customer service is not emergency medical response.

Read the terms before declaring and paying

New students declare during pre-enrolment; current students use AIMS before each academic year. The current page says choices cannot be changed after declaration, so check requirements and cover first.

Premiums enter the student account and must be paid by the notice’s deadline. Check AIMS afterwards. No response is not automatic University-plan enrolment; adequate insurance remains your responsibility.

Before declaration, check student category, participation/exemption choice, Basic or Top-Up, academic year and total premium. Save the confirmation, then check the insurance charge/payment in AIMS → Student Record → My Finance. Keep declaration, completed enrolment and payment evidence to establish individual participation; the published scheme year alone is not evidence that your own cover has started.

Use the right claim administrator

These are the three forms currently linked from the2026/27 university page; their2025-09 file paths do not mean you should substitute an old policy. Send medical/Top-Up claims to Generali and personal accident claims to AIG. The medical form is prefilled GM-88000993; the accident form GPP2001025. Retain university-prefilled fields and check your membership and period. If you lack a Member No., ask Generali with your university email and student number rather than guessing.

Obtain treatment and records first, then claim using the steps below. Generali hospital claims must be submitted within90 days of discharge and outpatient claims within90 days of consultation. The AIG form requires submission as soon as possible. Contact3666 7090 / pa.claim.hk@aig.com promptly after an accident with accident date, injury and university policy, confirming applicable notification and evidence deadlines rather than applying Generali’s90-day limit to accident cover.

  1. Collect original evidence

Receipts should show patient, treatment date, diagnosis, itemised fees, and doctor’s signature/stamp. Keep written referrals for specified specialist/tests/physio/chiro benefits. Obtain itemised hospital bills and discharge summary; scan everything before posting.

  2. Complete the relevant form

For Generali hospital claims, you complete PartA and the physician PartB; an HA discharge summary can replace PartB. For Top-Up outpatient claims, give date, covered benefit, currency/amount, diagnosis and university email, then sign. For AIG, supply identity, accident date/place/circumstances, treatment and payment details and have the doctor complete applicable medical sections.

  3. Send to the correct insurer

Generali: EB Claims Department,21/F,Cityplaza One,1111 King’s Road,Taikoo Shing,Hong Kong. AIG: Claims Department,7/F,One Island East,18 Westlands Road,Island East,Hong Kong. Include signed form, original receipts and supporting records, and keep a copy and delivery evidence.

  4. Keep the reference and follow up

Generali members with registered email can use GenBRAVO for claim history and eligible e-claims; paper claims do not require an app account. AIG sends a receipt acknowledgement to the mobile number on the form. For no acknowledgement or missing documents, quote name, submission date and reference to the appropriate insurer and request an exact list. Reconcile the settlement notice and payment.

Common questions

Open to read
Am I covered immediately after selecting the plan?

No. University-plan cover begins after enrolment and full payment. Check your own protection for travel and any earlier arrival.

Does University insurance make routine consultations free?

No. Basic excludes ordinary general-practitioner visits from general cover. Top-Up adds only specified outpatient benefits, with referral requirements and visit/payment limits. A clinic student rate is a fee concession, not a promise of full reimbursement.
